5 Techniques to Utilise Social Media Marketing (even if you aren’t tech-savvy!)

Why is Social Media Marketing important?

In a nutshell, it allows visibility and reach, which creates brand awareness. It helps shape your online presence, creating engagement and building trust amongst consumers, and it allows for market research, by using data to give consumers what they are interested in.

4.20 billion people are active on social media (Hootsuite) this is a huge market and engaging content has the potential to reach millions!  Having a social media presence will improve loyalty by making you more accessible to your audience and is a cost-effective approach to implement an advertising strategy and grow your platform (Adams, 2015). Working from home and lockdowns mean that it is now almost impossible to thrive without a social media presence, if you are struggling to get started and want to know more benefits, keep reading! Here are 5 techniques you can easily utilize to help build your platform through social media marketing:

  1. Research your audience

Know Millennials from Boomers and your foodies from Gamers – then narrow your focus. What do your existing consumers look like? Are they your perfect audience? What do they like? Think what your ideal consumer and develop your target audience, creating a specific definition.

2. Define the social platforms you will utilize

Look into what platforms your audience is already using, it’s pointless posting if no one will see. Twitter is intimate and straight to the point and Facebook is the biggest platform so is good for lead generation, ask your consumers questions, where do they spend hours scrolling, look at the platform that is in line with the type of content you create, and that’s where you should be posting!

3. Learn from your competitors (but be kind)

What competitors are up to will impact your own platform? Try and learn their strategy and modify your own, when you grasp their activity, you can then monitor the pros and cons of their online presence, you do not have to go toe-toe, sometimes it is nice to see competitors getting along too.

4. Use a strong engagement strategy

Measure likes, comments, shares, and other interactions from your content and on your accounts, figure out what is resonating. Establish your style and voice, and make sure that you identify yourself and set goals, create a plan that has longevity for your platform to flourish through trends.

5. Create engaging content

Create shareable eye-catching content, one of the highest reasons consumers will unfollow is because the content is unrelatable! Expand your reach with catchy hashtags and have a consistent brand voice. Remember to be consistent, although you must understand your audience, your audience must understand you!
